The Sustainable Multi-Storey (SMS) research project is a collaborative research project in which we are researching how electricity, gas, water, housing, internet and other services are being provided to multi-storey communities in Newcastle and how this could be improved and made more sustainable.
We are doing this because tall residential buildings have not usually been the focus of the government's attempts to make UK housing and utility services more sustainable.
