Area 8 is the Arcus Neroniani, the branch of the Aqua Claudia built by Nero to derive water from the aqueduct at Porta Maggiore and bring it to the temple of the Divus Claudius on the North-Western portion of the Caelian. The Aqueduct was built on a double arcade of bricks and underwent a series of restorations, one more comprehensive during the reign of Septimius Severus, when the structure was named Arcus Caelimontani (CIL VI. 1259).
