About REGRIND
REGRIND (TRacE Gas-mineral inteRactIoNs During aeolian erosion on Mars) is a research project funded by the UK Space Agency. It investigates the rates of uptake and release of methane and other trace gases (i.e. H2, N2O, CO etc.) during present day sand movement on Mars. The main aims of REGRIND are:
- Perform and use analogue laboratory experiments to evaluate the effect of sand movement on trace gases under Martian conditions.
- Study the relationship between trace gases and sand movement on the surface of Mars by linking the ExoMars NOMAD and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter HiRISE data.
The project is led by Dr. Jon Telling, a lecturer in Geochemistry/Geomicrobiology at Newcastle University in collaboration with Project Partners at the Open University, University of Aberdeen, University of Arizona, and University of Bristol.
