Well Integrity & Pollution

Well Integrity refers to the potential of a borehole to degrade over time, potentially providing a pathway for contaminants to reach soil, aquifers or the air. Degradation can occur due to factors such as corrosion of steel well casing, cracking of cement or improper abandonment. Fugitive Emissions refer to gases (mostly methane) that may escape to the atmosphere from wells or other infrastructure such as pipelines.
