Understanding and managing subsurface uncertainty

The 2^nd in this virtual conference series focused on the intringuing question of geological uncertainty and what this means for meeting the UKs Net Zero targets.
Dr Mark Ireland tackled the question from a technical and societal point of view – are the geological data we collect of sufficient quality and suitability to allow geoscientists to accurately assess the impact and challenges of future subsurface activities?
Dr Clare Bond then went on to explain the findings of her seismic interpretation experiment. Her experiment showed the importance of questioning data and models whilst applying knowledge, concepts and techniques to the analyses of seismic data. The importance of capturing reasoning, i.e. the interpreter’s thoughts and processes is vital to explaining the subsurface.
