About our Project

AHLAN is a multidisciplinary landscape research project exploring how communities along the Nile near modern-day Dongola, Sudan, have adapted land use and food security strategies since the African Humid Period. Combining archival research, remote sensing, and community participation, the project documents heritage sites and landscapes, identifies new archaeological and environmental features, and records local knowledge of the Nile landscape. Our goal is to use these findings to support local partners, regional decision-makers, and the Sudanese National Corporation of Antiquities and Museums in building a comprehensive heritage inventory and developing sustainable, community-led management strategies for the future.
