Martin Stopford is a graduate of Oxford University and has a PhD in International Economics from London University. During his 41 years in the Maritime Industry he was Director of Business Development at British Shipbuilders; Global Shipping Economist with Chase Manhattan Bank N.A., Chief Executive of Lloyds Maritime Information Services and Managing Director of Clarkson Research Services Limited (CRSL). He was also an executive director of Clarkson PLC for seven years. Academic appointments include ten years as a very active Senior Visiting Fellow at City University Business School. He is currently a visiting Professor at Cass Business School in London, Dalian Maritime University in China, Newcastle University and Copenhagen Business School. His publications include “Maritime Economics” the 3rd Edition, published by Routledge in 2009, and many papers on shipping economics and ship finance.
Martin Stopford is a globally renowned figure in the field of maritime economics and the provision of shipping data. He retired from Clarkson Research Limited in 2013 but remains President and continues to be in demand as a speaker and advisor on a global basis. Professor Stopford is a holder of Lloyds List Lifetime Achievement Award (2010).
