If you agree to take part in the study, you will find out more about your child’s development. You will also be helping to work out better ways of helping other children’s talking in your area.

We are training staff in early years settings and groups to help children’s talking. Each local authority area taking part in the study has chosen a programme to help children with their talking.

The programme will work on children’s listening and learning new words. Staff will learn new ways of getting children involved in conversation and keeping their attention. They will help children’s language learning through fun activities such as songs, games, and sharing books. 

The language programmes have been shown to work in the UK and other countries. They have helped children learn language faster and staff have felt more confident in supporting children who they work with.

The nursery / early years group / preschool group / childminder may take videos of themselves using the programme with your child. They will show the video to our researcher and talk about the things that best help your child’s talking and understanding. The video will not be seen by other people and will be deleted after the conversation.
