Joining in
If you agree to take part in the study, these are the things that will happen:
1. Consent
You will sign a consent form to say you are happy to take part.
2. Assessments
A health visitor / speech and language therapist working in our team will assess your child’s talking and understanding of words three times:
-
- Five months before the programme starts,
- Just before the programme starts,
- Five months after it started.
They will work with your child in the setting to do the assessments.
3. Questionnaires
We will ask you to do three short questionnaires with us on:
-
- Your child’s general development
- Your own feelings of wellbeing and stress
- How often your child uses services such as the GP or Family Hubs
The questionnaires take about 20 minutes in total. We can do them over the phone, face to face or give you a copy to take away. The questionnaires will help us to work out if the programme makes a difference to your family. We will ask you to complete them each time we see your child to assess their talking and understanding.
We may ask you to talk to us about what you thought about the programme and what it was like to take part in the study.
A member of the team may watch your child doing the programme in their early years setting.
The team have lots of experience in working with children. If you agree to your child taking part in the study but we find they do not want to do the assessments or the programme, we will stop. We will contact you to let you know.
