Open Access

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and changes to the open access service.

The Philip Robinson Library will close on 20 March 2020 at 5pm until further notice. After this date staff supporting open access will be working remotely. You can contact us via e-mail to openaccess@ncl.ac.uk and as far as possible we will strive to maintain a normal service. However, some delays in processing payments to publishers are possible.

Open access enables free online access to research publications with limited restrictions over reuse. Newcastle University encourages and supports open access as an invaluable way to maximise the visibility and impact of research. The open access team provide support with making papers eligible for REF, meeting research funder requirements, funding for gold open access and green open access in ePrints

Make your research REF eligible

Articles accepted for publication after April 1 2016 need to be made open access to be eligible for REF. Find out how to make your papers REF eligible with MyImpact and ePrints.

Funder Policies

Many funders require publications arising from the research they fund to be made open access. Check the policies that apply to your research funders and how to comply.
