Documentation: general editorial tags

‘As in editing a printed work, so in encoding a text in electronic form it may be necessary to accommodate editorial comment on the text…The following tags may be used to record such editorial interventions’ (Guidelines 6.5). Of these tags, NECTE uses the following from Guidelines 6.5.3:

<gap> ‘indicates a point where material has been omitted in a transcription, whether for editorial reasons described in the TEI header, as part of sampling practice, or material is illegible or inaudible’.

<unclear> ‘Contains a word, phrase, or passage that cannot be transcribed with certainty because it is illegible or inaudible’.
