Lutz Sauerteig

Dr Lutz Sauerteig is Senior Lecturer in Medical Humanities (History of Medicine). As a cultural historian, Lutz is working in the field of medical humanities with a focus on history of medicine, sexualities, gender, and bodies. Currently, Lutz is researching two projects. The first is related to the history of sex education in Germany (19th & 20th centuries). This project investigates how young people’s knowledge about sexualities and gender was shaped. The second project researches the history of puberty, its understanding, cultural representation, and individual experience in the 19th and 20th century.

Lutz is happy to supervise PhD projects related to either of these two projects in the widest sense as well as to projects related to more general research interests of History of Sexualities and Gender; History of Bodies; History of Public Health (19th & 20th centuries); History of Medical Ethics (19th & 20th centuries).
