Funding Opportunity: Wellcome ISSF Medical Humanities Small Grants

The small grants scheme is open to researchers across the creative arts, humanities, and social sciences, and provides seedcorn funding to support activities which will aid the development of applications for external funding applications which will be submitted through Newcastle University. In accordance with Wellcome Trust strategy, this call is open to research that has the potential to improve human life, health and wellbeing, potentially by studying the social, cultural, political and historical contexts of human health and disease needs, or the values and priorities of the people and communities affected by disease and health disparities. Inter-disciplinary research across Institutes, Schools and Faculties is welcomed, but is not a requirement.

Any activities which will further the development of a funding bid within this remit are eligible, although please note that this is a time limited scheme and awarded funds must be spent by 31st March 2023. Such cost-incurring activities might include (but are not limited to):

• Scoping research (including field research, accessing archives, libraries, or other resources) to test the feasibility of an idea and develop a methodological approach.
• Preparation, analysis, and interpretation of data.
• Meetings with potential collaborators to develop a proposal, including impact and engagement plans as part of a funding application.

The scheme supports activities leading to external funding applications only and is not intended to cover the costs of undertaking personal research to develop outputs, or to deliver impact work. Applications will be funded to a maximum of £10,000. Short feedback on unsuccessful applications will be given.
