Andrew Donaldson

Andrew researches more-than-human geographies of risk and security. His work looks at how matters of security are made at the intersection of natures, futures, expertise and everyday lives. A particular focus has been on the various practices and technologies of anticipation, the ways in which futures are made present and actionable.  This, coupled with a consideration of how forms of life and natures are articulated as threats or problems, extends questions about security outside of their traditional formal and institutional contexts and opens up a material politics of security that can speak to coexistence as well as exclusion.  Andrew's work draws on an academic background that crosses the social and natural sciences and has considered a range of empirical cases including animal diseases, flooding, food and infrastructures.
