Professor Shibata Motoyuki
Shibata Motoyuki taught American literature and literary translation at the University of Tokyo for nearly three decades. He has translated works by a number of contemporary American authors including Paul Auster, Steven Millhauser and Steve Erickson. He edits Monkey, a Tokyo-based Japanese-language literary journal and Monkey Business, a Brooklyn-based journal in English, which has served for the past seven years as an international platform for both established and upcoming Japanese writers, including Murakami Haruki, Ogawa Yoko, Kawakami Hiromi, and Furukawa Hideo. He co-authored two books with Murakami Haruki: Honyaku yawa and Honyaku yawa 2.
