Dr Rebecca Suter
Rebecca Suter is Associate Professor and chair in the Japanese Studies department at the University of Sydney. Her main research interests are in modern Japanese literature, comparative literature, and Asian cultural studies. Her first book, The Japanization of Modernity: Murakami Haruki between Japan and the United States (2008), focused on Murakami Haruki’s activity as a translator and cultural mediator. While expanding her research to include popular media such as film and manga, Suter has continued to work on Murakami in more recent years. Her latest publication on the topic is “Between Self-Promotion and Cultural Politics: Murakami Haruki’s Travelogues” (Japan Forum, 2016).
