Dr Michael Tsang

Michael Tsang was Research Associate on the project and is now Lecturer in Japanese studies at Birkbeck College, University of London. He holds degrees in gender studies and English and comparative literature from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Warwick. His research interests lie in postcolonial and world literatures with an East Asian focus. His previous work has studied the novels of Murakami Haruki and Yang Yi. In relation to the project, he has co-edited (with Gitte Marianne Hansen) several publications on Murakami including a special issue with Japan Forum (vol. 32 (3), 2020) and Murakami Haruki and Our Years of Pilgrimage (2022). Other publications on Murakami include the the book chapter, "Appropriating Murakami Haruki’s 'Always on the Side of the Egg’ Speech in Hong Kong" (2018), which studies Murakami's wider impact beyond Japan.
