Professor Guy Austin
Guy Austin, a keen reader of Murakami novels, joined Newcastle University as Professor of French Studies in January 2010. His main research specialism is modern French and Algerian cinema. He is the author of the books Algerian National Cinema, Contemporary French Cinema, Stars in Modern French Film, and Claude Chabrol. He recently edited the collections New Uses of Bourdieu in Film and Media Studies (2016) and Revisiting Star Studies (co-edited with Sabrina Yu, 2017). He also researches and writes on trauma and depression in cinema. As founding director of the Research Centre in Film & Digital Media at Newcastle, he has organised and co-organised various film events including screenings, workshops and conferences.
