The Medieval and Early Modern Research Group is holding a Dissertation Symposium for students doing BA or MA dissertations on medieval and early modern topics in any field. For these purposes we interpret early modern to extend until the mid-1700s. The symposium will take place on Thursday April 16th starting at 2pm in Room 1.01, Stephenson Building.

This is an informal opportunity to present your dissertation topic, and get constructive and positive feedback from your peers and from staff working in these periods. This feedback will help to support,  develop or refine your work. This is ideal for students who are close to finishing their work (BA students who are putting the final touches to their dissertations and who would like to polish their ideas) and MA students who are starting to think through their topics. Presentations are limited to a maximum of 10 minutes each and everyone will be kept strictly to time. Ideally each student will present in panels of three where you are talking about your work in dialogue with other students working on similar topics but  in other subject areas or Schools. MEMS will also give a prize of £50 to the best presentation and we will end with a small wine reception.  (Another prize of £50 will also be awarded later in the year to the best BA dissertation on a medieval or early modern topic in the Faculty.). If you are interested in presenting your work in this forum, please let Peter Hebden (peter.hebden2@ncl.ac.uk) know as soon as possible and at the latest by 5pm on April 13th.
