Dr Helen Stringer

Dr Helen Stringer is a senior lecturer and Head of Speech and Language Sciences at Newcastle University. Helen is a duel qualified speech and language therapist and teacher. She has experience working in schools and in the NHS as a speech and language therapist and class teacher as well as in senior clinical management roles in education and Health.

Helen’s research interests are focused on developing evaluating and implementing interventions for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. Helen uses behaviour change theories and models in much of her research. Helen has developed a widely used assessment and intervention for phonological awareness taking children through syllable and phoneme level development. As well as being a member of the LIVELY study team, Helen is currently leading a project developing resources to support partnership working between speech and language therapists and educational settings.
