Site visit to Blackhall Colliery

Adam and Catherine have been on a reconnaissance trip to Blackhall Colliery, on the Durham Coast, to investigate whether the site will be suitable for inclusion in a characterisation study of coastal legacy wastes. Two waste types are present at Blackhall Colliery: a former landfill and coal spoil. There is evidence of spoil from the abandoned Blackhall Colliery having been deposited over the cliffs, as shown in the picture (right).
