Sean Bayly is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate at Newcastle University. His KTP Project is aligned with his specialism in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models, and Information Retrieval Systems. The KTP Project itself is concerned with the application of these subject areas within the Architectural Domain - where professionals and practitioners, are overburdened with a requirement to manually and repetitively source and summarise data from disparate sources.
Sean was formerly a Data Scientist specialising providing services on a consultancy basis to companies in the Automotive Industry. Here, he developed his then academic skill set into the commercial space through delivery of projects from across the full data stack including: Visualisation, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Analysis, and Architecture of Solutions. During his work as a Data Scientist, he led an industry research project, presenting the work at a research conference and winning best presentation.
Major themes of interest to Sean are those that contribute towards a globally fair and accessible adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. These include ideas such as Human In The Loop (HITL), Open Source AI, Ethical AI, and AI for Social Good. Sean's personal goal to support the adoption of AI technologies by North East SMEs, and companies that traditionally lack the technical support to adapt to and adopt cutting-edge technologies such as AI, is strongly aligned with the goals of his KTP Project.
