Dr. Sneha Verma

Dr. Sneha Verma is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in School of Engineering at Newcastle University, United Kingdom, boasts an illustrious academic journey. She completed her Ph.D. in April 2023 from the School of Engineering and Technology at City, University of London, UK, where she was the recipient of a prestigious Doctoral Fellowship. Her academic pursuits also led her to attain an M.Phil. degree from City University of London in 2020, showcasing her dedication to scholarly excellence. Hailing from India, Sneha achieved both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 2015 and 2017, respectively, before embarking on her doctoral journey in the UK. Her exceptional research acumen garnered recognition from the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers, United Kingdom, who honoured her with a post-graduate award for her outstanding contributions.

Dr. Sneha is using cutting-edge artificial intelligence techniques to create a reliable predictive algorithm specifically designed for construction site stability analysis as part of the digital twin and AI project, which is a cooperative endeavour between two top academics and eight notable national and international industrial stakeholders. This AI algorithm integrates a multi-dimensional dataset comprising real-time sensor data, geotechnical parameters, and historical performance metrics, all funnelled through a dynamic machine-learning pipeline. By employing state-of-the-art techniques such as recursive feature elimination, ensemble methods (e.g., Random Forest, Gradient Boosting), and temporal convolutional networks, she aims to build a predictive model that can detect early warning signs of structural instabilities and provide actionable insights for site managers. In her collaborative endeavours, Sneha works closely with interdisciplinary research teams, fostering partnerships with esteemed institutions such as the University of Berkeley, USA, the University of São Paulo, Brazil, Newcastle University, UK, City University of London, UK, and the University of York, United Kingdom. She adeptly manages research projects requiring strategic software and data infrastructure development, showcasing her leadership and organizational skills.

Beyond her technical prowess, Dr. Sneha is deeply committed to educational excellence, as evidenced by her role as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. She effectively communicates complex technical concepts to students and provides mentorship in practical applications using programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and C++. With a prolific research portfolio, Sneha has authored over 20 peer reviewed journal papers, presented at more than 5 international conferences, and delivered over 5 invited talks. Her expertise encompasses Artificial Intelligence algorithms, C++, Nanophotonic, MATLAB, COMSOL, and a strong foundation in Physics, Science, and Engineering. Prior to her academic pursuits, Sneha gained invaluable industrial and research experience at CSIR - Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, Kolkata, West Bengal focusing on Optical Fibre Sensors. She also honed her skills in Robotics and Automation during her tenure at CSIR- Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur, West Bengal, where she worked extensively on motion and gesture recognition using Arduino and Visual Studio.
