Professor Theis is Director of the Institute for Environmental Science and Policy (IESP) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). IESP focuses on the development of new cross-disciplinary research initiatives in the sustainability area. Professor Theis received his doctoral degree in environmental engineering, with a specialization in environmental chemistry, from the University of Notre Dame. He has published widely on life cycle assessment, systems analysis, industrial ecology, and industrial pollution prevention, and environmental chemistry, and is the co-author of the online text Sustainability: A Comprehensive Foundation. He is the principal investigator for UIC’s initiative on Building Urban Resilience and Sustainability (BURST).
