Dr Jemima Repo

Jemima is a Lecturer in the Politics of Gender in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University, UK. Before joining Newcastle, she was Lecturer in Gender Studies at the University of Helsinki, where she also studied for her BA, MSc and PhD. Her research is mainly located at the intersection of feminist political theory and biopolitics. Her book The Biopolitics of Gender (Oxford University Press, 2015), which won the 2017 International Studies Association's Feminist Theory and Gender Studies Book Award, reconsiders the emancipatory potential of the idea of 'gender' for feminist theory and politics today. She is currently working on two projects, one on the sexual politics of neoclassical economic theory, and another on the biopolitics of the sterilization of transgender people in Finland, and she is part of the ongoing research projects Politics and Numbers: Policy Instruments and Global Governance and Biopolitics and Democracy.
