GRG Evening Lecture Series at City Library: ‘Gender and the Holocaust: An Exploration of the Role of Gender in Female Authored Camp Memoirs’ – Elise Bath (Newcastle University) , Wednesday 18th Febuary, 5:15-6:00pm.
Was gender relevant in the concentration camp environment? While engagement with gender issues in the Holocaust has increased in recent years, there still exists a sense that gender is only of peripheral concern in this field. My analysis of female-authored camp memoirs reveals this to be untrue, and this talk calls attention to sources of danger and threat specific to the female gender, including issues surrounding fertility, and female specific abuse.
Elise Bath is currently working towards a Ph.D. in German Studies in the School of Modern Languages at Newcastle University.
