Professor Chris Deery BDS MSc PhD FDS RCS Ed FDS (Paed) RCS Ed FDS RCS Eng FHEA. Chris is the Dean of The School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield, Professor and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry. He graduated from Edinburgh University in 1984. Following periods in General Dental Practice in England and the Community Dental Service in Grampian, he undertook an MSc in Child Dental Health at Bristol University. He then moved to the University of Dundee where he worked at the Scottish Executive’s Dental Health Services Research Unit and the Children’s Dentistry Department, gaining a PhD in 1997. He became a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at Edinburgh Dental Institute in 2001 and took up a Chair in Paediatric Dentistry at University of Sheffield in October 2006. He is a Regional Specialty Advisor (RCS Eng) and has been Training Programme Director for S Yorkshire & East Midlands. He was Clinical Lead for Paediatric Dentistry in Sheffield for 8 years and until recently was Associate Clinical Director of the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital. His research interests are preventive dentistry particularly sealants, cariology, evidence based dentistry and child focused research. Chris is the Sheffield Clinical Lead and his areas of expertise are caries diagnosis, preventive and operative care of children.
