Professor Barbara Chadwick BDS FDS RCS(Ed) MScD PhD. Barbara Chadwick is Professor and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry and is Head of the Paediatric Dentistry Unit at the School of Dentistry, Cardiff University. The two major aims of her research are to identify methods of reducing health inequalities and improve clinical effectiveness. Evidence-based care is increasingly important and her research includes epidemiological studies, systematic reviews to deduce best practice or identify gaps in knowledge, qualitative studies to determine patient perspectives and clinical trials in primary care. She is the only paediatric dentist involved in the 2013 Child Dental Health Survey and was part of the survey team for the Adult Dental Health Survey in 2009. Internationally she was involved with thematic projects funded by the European Union’s Directorate for Education and Culture, resulting in collaborative projects investigating differences in Curriculum design in paediatric dentistry within Europe and evidence-based care in the dental curriculum. Professor Chadwick acts as the Paediatric Clinical Lead for South Wales. She has undertaken clinical trials in primary care previously and is involved in determining the restorative and preventive protocols for the clinical component of the study. She also plays a role in training the dental teams in South Wales who agree to take part in the study. Part of her local role may involve visiting the practices and acting as a point of contact for queries relating to the trial.
