Professor Ruth Freeman BDS PhD MSc MMedSc (Psychotherapy) DDPH.RCS (Eng) FFPH.RCP (UK). Ruth trained at Queen’s University, Belfast and at the University of London.   Prior to her appointment to the Chair of Dental Public Health Research at the Dental Health Services Research Unit in 2006, she worked at University College, London and at Queen’s University, Belfast where she was Professor of Dental Public Health. In January 2013, Ruth and Jan Clarkson were appointed as Co-Directors of DHSRU. She has researched in the areas of behavioural sciences, oral health promotion and oral health inequalities. As Director of the Oral Health and Health Research Programme, her research interests include theoretical and practical dimensions of social exclusions and health disparities.   She is principal investigator on 4 funded programmes of research, has published 5 books, has written 6 book chapters and has 139 peer-reviewed journal articles. Ruth brings her expertise in qualitative research, her work with children, the measurement of pain, quality of life, and patients’ oral health-related attitudes and behaviours to this study.
