Dr Ben Cole BDS MSc FDS RCS (Ed) MPaed Dent RCS (Eng) FDS (Paed) RCS (Ed). Ben, Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry, graduated from the University of Benin in 1982. On the completion of his house officer post in 1983 and National Service in 1984, he joined the University’s academic department of Restorative Dentistry. Whilst training as lecturer, Ben completed the fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in 1987 and a Master’s programme in Conservative Dentistry at the University of Bristol in 1990. Ben embarked on additional training and was appointed to his current post as consultant in paediatric dentistry in 2003. Ben has worked in various hospitals including Newcastle Dental Hospital, Middlesbrough General Hospital, Charles Clifford Dental School & Hospital, Crosshouse Hospital, Guy’s Hospital and Newcastle upon Tyne NHS Foundation Trust. Whilst most of Ben’s career is Hospital based, he has also worked within the General Dental Service. Ben has a passion for paediatric dentistry where he is able to use his many skills to the great advantage of his patients. Ben is currently the President of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD), Chair of the SAC in Paediatric Dentistry, Member of the Advisory Board for Specialist Training in Dentistry, Regional Specialty Adviser in Paediatric Dentistry and Health Education North-East (Deanery) & Hospital MFDS/MJDF GPT Tutor. Ben is interested in all evidence based research and Dental Education of the workforce that would enhance the quality of care for paediatric patients.
