The FiCTION study is investigating the clinical and cost effectiveness of 3 different approaches to managing decay in children's teeth. Currently there is insufficient evidence on which to base any recommendation for the most effective strategy to manage dental decay in children in primary care. The study will compare (1) Conventional management - the traditional, surgical approach with best practice alone with; (2) Biological management- sealing in with crowns and fissure sealants, including best practice prevention and; (3) best practice prevention alone with no fillings placed.
Following the sucessful Pilot Trial (phase 1), the Main Trial (phase 2) started on 1st January 2012.
