On the 13th February, Dublin City University hosted a workshop on Assessment in Science and Mathematics. This workshop brought together three European projects along with national projects to share experiences and approaches to assessment.
Presentations were given by:
· Prof. Jens Dolin, University of Copenhagen. ASSIST-ME project (Coordinator)
· Mr. David Wright, Newcastle University, FaSMEd project (Deputy Coordinator)

Project Outlines:
1. ASSIST-ME - Assess Inquiry in Science, Technology and Mathematics Education – aims to provide a research base on effective uptake of formative and summative assessment for inquiry-based, competence oriented Science, Technology and Mathematics (STM) education in primary and secondary education in different educational contexts in Europe and to use this research base to give policy makers and other stakeholders guidelines for ensuring that assessment enhances learning in STM education. http://assistme.ku.dk/
2. FaSMEd – Improving Progress through Formative Assessment in Science and Maths Education – is developing tools that allow teachers to keep track of how their students are learning, rather than focusing exclusively on “summative assessments” such as school and state examinations. http://research.ncl.ac.uk/fasmed/
