- Longitudinal Sarcopenia Prevalence in Patients Undergoing Complex Endovascular Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair
- MB BS
In this project the relationship between muscle mass loss after having complex aortic aneurysm surgery was investigated. 184 patients had a CT carried out at level 3 of the lumbar vertebra to measure their skeletal muscle mass. This was done prior to the operation, 3 months, 1 year, 2 years, and finally 3 years after their operation. This allowed us to see that the skeletal muscle mass decreases post-operatively and takes almost 2 years to recover. This has shown that more research is required to try and improve recovery post-operatively.
