  • Horizon 2020, EU Research and Innovation programme – Developing Sustainable PERmanent Grassland systems and policies (SUPER-G)

The overall objective is to assess the value of including a range of forbs in permanent grass (PG) to increase its range of benefits including: animal nutrition, encouraging pollinators, pollination services, increasing soil carbon storage. This will be done as part of an ongoing experiment located at Cockle where there are four replicates of four seed mixes in randomised plots, under two management conditions; one cut and two cut systems.

The overall objective of the SUPER-G project is to co-develop sustainable PG systems and policies with farmers and policy makers that will be effective in optimising productivity, whilst supporting biodiversity and delivering a number of other ecosystem services e.g. carbon storage .The project will help tie in to many of the SDG’s, particularly: 12, 13 and 15.  As well as this, COP26 pledges to adapt to protect natural habitats and communities, by contributing to more sustainable farming practices
