- The Impact of Antibiotic Use On Microbial Behaviour During Urinary Tract Infection Associated Clinical Trials
Health Advisers and the Media are continually telling us that we are heading towards a major health issue due to the rise in antibiotic resistance hindering our ability to treat bacterial infections. As a result, the healthcare setting is determined to raise the awareness in "antibiotic stewardship", where we as patients and professional healthcare providers take in to consideration: when antibiotics are needed, how much is being prescribed and are there alternatives when managing persistent or recurrent infections? We are honoured to have access to bacterial isolates from 2 clinical trials which centred around the concept of antibiotic stewardship. Both studies look at the long-term use of antibiotics against either an alternative or short-term use when an infection was identified. Therefore, this project will ask: can we determine the impact of the different uses of antibiotic on the microbes isolated within these trials?
