• Synthesis of 'Smart' Polymer Nanoparticles for the Inhibition of Biofilm Formation

The aim of this project is to synthesize ‘smart’ polymer-based nanoparticles which are able to exploit the acid microenvironment of some bacterial to inhibit biofilm formation. Special cross-links within the nanoparticles will become activated at low pH, triggering their cross-linking into polymeric films which we anticipate will inhibit the abilities of the bacteria to form biofilms.
