- Acute effects of dietary nitrate and vitamin C supplementation on blood pressure and endothelial function in human subjects
The aim of the research was to determine the dual effects of inorganic nitrate and Vitamin C on endothelial function, BP and biomarkers of cardiovascular risk and oxidative stress.
Recruited volunteers were administered 4 interventions in random order: (inorganic nitrate+ Vitamin C, inorganic nitrate+ placebo, vitamin C+ placebo, placebo+ placebo). During each visit participants completed questionnaires on general health, physical activity and a food frequency questionnaire to assess habitual dietary intake. The BP and blood samples were taken and vascular function was measured. All blood samples were processed by centrifugation and stored in the -80 freezer for further analysis.
