- The Role of Dual Hydrogen Bonding in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry
Dual hydrogen bonding is a phenomena seen in a wide range of systems from simple molecules to complex enzymes, most notably in the bromodomain family of enzymes now being researched for the treatment of cancer. This project investigated varying simple molecular systems to assess the energetics and stoichiometry of interactions between carbonyl compounds and hydrogen bond donors by use of NMR and ITC. This sets down stepping stones by providing further ideas for more complicated model systems, with the goal being to clarify the role and importance of dual hydrogen bonding in chemistry and biochemistry.
