  • Critique of tools used to monitor spatial movements of squirrels.

Understanding how red and grey squirrels compete for space in a habitat is important to understand where and when to control the invasive grey squirrel to best protect the native red. This project will compare two methods (radio tracking and camera trapping) for observing space use in competing species. The student will be trained to make observations of individuals in the field and spend time analysing camera images to determine repeat visitation by individuals.  This will allow a critique of suitability of the methods for assessing space use in ecology.
