There is a great deal of interest in identifying molecules which can act as markers of disease activity in periodontal disease (often called ‘gum disease’). Measurement of such ‘biomarkers’ would provide objective information, which would help oral healthcare decisions in the clinic and (potentially) in the home. The challenge researchers have is that there is a large but fragmented literature on such biomarkers which is difficult to assess. The present project aims to develop a searchable database in the form of a user-friendly computer ‘application’ which would greatly enhance research in this area and serve as a useful resource for researchers & research projects.
