• Novel reporters for the translational recoding of the foot-and-mouth disease 2A peptide

Working both independently and alongside Dr Brown and Man Balola I transformed yeast and E.coli cells with plasmids containing the 2A peptide and fluorescent protein; various functional and non-functional versions of 2A were designed and cloned into plasmids along with the green or red fluorescent protein sequences.  With the transformants I analysed protein expression via Western blotting; purified plasmid DNA; compared the presence and intensity of fluorescence across the samples on the fluorescent microscope; and sorted cells via flow cytometry.
