  • Histone Methylation Variability as a Determinant of Fibrosis Progression in Chronic Liver Diseases.

Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance (TEI) is the theory that epigenetic modifications can occur on the DNA of one generation, and can be passed onto the next generation via the sperm or egg. These changes could cause a disease phenotype in the offspring. This project investigated histone methylations in control mice, which can then be compared to those in mice with induced liver fibrosis. The sperm of mice was isolated, cut into smaller fragments before undergoing bioanalysis to identify and locate specific genes. Numerous wet laboratory techniques were used, including those determining the presence of methylations at specific sites on the histones.
