Newcastle hosts one of only five centres in England for treatment of patients with bone and soft tissue sarcomas (malignant tumours). The research project aims to explore the application of available biomarkers (measurable indicators) among those patients in Newcastle. It involves reviewing clinical patients with sarcoma and collating data of staging, outcome and clinically available assays of biological activity levels. The project also prospectively explores the wider range of assays to prognostic scores in those patients. It will be based within the Northern Institute for Cancer Research, offering facilities of a broad panel of biomarkers in support of the project.
