The project investigated the gene Pax9 and its role in the control of cardiovascular development. The differences in expression levels of genes between Pax9 null tissue and wild type tissue had been compared using next-generation sequencing techniques. A small number of potential differentially expressed genes were then validated using quantitative RT-PCR. This identifies a significant change in expression of Ccpg1 in Pax9 null tissue. Ccpg1 produces a regulatory protein which cascades to produce a number of other effects and influences cell division.
