- Why do rhesus macaques display abnormal behaviours in enriched housing environment?
Rhesus macaques, amongst other species, have been observed to carry out behaviours such as pacing in captivity that they do not in the wild. It has been suggested that these behaviours may be a reaction to stress, boredom or other things which should be kept to a minimum for the welfare of the animal. This study involved behavioural coding captive macaques to try and understand the reason for these stereotypic behaviours.
