  • The Weimar Question: British views during the post-war planning on the reasons of the failure of German democracy
  • BA (Hons) Politics & History

This project is designed to analyse how the British were preparing to deal with the occupied and defeated Germany during the final phase of the Second World War. In this wider planning for the post-war period, this project is primarily concerned with the contemporary analysis of the failure of Weimar and the frailties of Weimar modernity. By using contemporary sources from the Foreign Office and the wider scholarly discourse this project will analyse: a) how the British sought to successfully transition Germany from dictatorship to a functioning democracy; b) how to ensure and prevent another rise of an extremist party.
