  • Monitoring long term Vertical Land Movement at North Shields Tide Gauge

Mean sea level (MSL) measurements at tide gauges provide key indications of climate change, but readings can be contaminated by vertical land movement (VLM) due to subsidence or post glacial rebound. This project will assess VLM at the North Shields tide gauge by analysing long term GPS data collected at the tide gauge as well as by conducting levelling to nearby inland points on bedrock. The outcome of this project will be essential up-to-date information on VLM which will improve the confidence of interpretation of MSL changes indicated by the tide gauge.
