- [18F]T807: A tau selective radioligand for PET imaging of neurodegenerative disease
Alzheimer Disease (AD) affects more than half a million people in the UK, has very limited treatment options, and greatly impacts on quality of life for both the patient and their family. AD is characterised by neurofibrillary tangles in the brain made up of the microtubule protein tau. In 2013 the PET radiopharmaceutical [18F]T807 was reported as being the first selective imaging agent for this indication. The project is to investigate the synthetic route to [18F]T807 and provide both the fluorine-19 standard and the nitro-precursor to extend the tau research already ongoing in Newcastle.
