- Identification of factors involved in asymmetric division during Bacillus subtilis sporulation
Understanding how living cells divide is a key challenge in the field of molecular biology, as it concerns the basic aspects of life. Moreover, it will open up new avenues for the development of treatments for health problems, such as infectious diseases. Bacillus subtilis is a bacterium that has proven to be exceptionally suitable for research on cell division. This project will attempt to find new factors important for the faithful coordination of key processes that cell division entails: chromosome organization and segregation, and formation of the division plane.
