- Ancient cultivars in the lime light: Genotyping Tilia species
My 8 week summer vacation scholarship was conducted in an academic research laboratory and was an invaluable experience. My project aimed to establish a genotype database of cultivars using microsatellite alleles. I learnt scientific skills such as DNA extraction and PCR, in addition to transferable skills such as time management and organisation. I also had the opportunity to attend a Genetic Society retreat in Norwich, where I presented my research findings. It was an amazing opportunity to work alongside academic researchers and to meet like-minded people. The experience has confirmed and enhanced my ambition to pursue a career in research.
